SDG Assessment of Thane Smart City Limited

Ms. Shabnam Siddiqui, Director, CEGET had a meeting with Mr. Sameer Unhale, Additional Commissioner, Thane Municipal Corporation & CEO, Thane Smart City  and CEGET Committee member Ms. Sunita Sule, Head Corporate Governance, BASF, on 8th August 2019 in New Delhi. The theme of the conversation was to explore the potential and strength of collective action between businesses and cities for effective compliance with SDGs in India. The motley group additionally explored long term collaboration, short term milestones and visible implementation of the SDGs.

Urban Thinkers Campus 4.0 -Resilient City we Need (Planning meeting)

CEGET, in partnership with the National Institute of Urban Affairs, UN Habitat India, The Energy and Resource Institute, and the International Urban Cooperation, India is organizing the Urban Thinkers Campus – ‘The Resilient City We Need’ in New Delhi on the 25th and 26th September 2019. The Campus will focus on 4 objectives – Mainstreaming Urban Resilience Strategies, Strengthening Capacities, Data-Driven Governance and Fostering Engagements and Partnerships.

A planning meeting with NIUA was held on 7th August 2019 to finetune programme strategy, agenda, speakers and participants.

Dr. Umamaheshwaran Rajasekar, Chair, Ms. Vaishnavi Shankar, Fellow and Ms. Ashali Bhandari, Resilience Fellow from the Urban Resilient Unit of NIUA and Ms. Shabnam Siddiqui and Mr. Somnath Singh were present in the meeting.

Alliance for Integrity Training ‘Vyapaar Se Vyapaar Ko – Business Integrity

Alliance for Integrity (AFIN) with support of Indo-German Chambers of Commerce held a Training of Trainers (ToT) in Mumbai on August 20-21, 2019. The objective of the training was to induct new trainers from the major companies in India to become part of the pool of trainers, for them to conduct Business Integrity trainings for the SMEs in India throughout the year along with the Alliance for Integrity. The training focused more on the manner and mechanisms of simplifying and demystifying the compliance system for the SMEs.

Mr. Arya Dev, Programme Analyst (Legal) represented Global Compact Network India (GCNI) and shared CEGET’s initiatives and innovations that have helped businesses in promoting Governance, Ethics and Transparency in their system.

Throughout the TOT, the participants were sensitized through various practical examples and live cases representing the dilemmas and concerns faced by the SMEs on a regular basis and to think of the practical ways to react to those situations being in the shoes of the SMEs. The participants were also provided with practical communication tips towards communicating and convincing the SMEs to imbibe the culture of compliance not only from a standpoint of ethics but also businesses.

In the coming months CEGET intends to partner with AFIN in organizing social media campaign and events during Vigilance Awareness Week 2019, as well as compliance trainings throughout the country. Stay tuned.

Exploring Partnership

On 5th August 2019, Ms. Shabnam Siddiqui met Mr. Prakash P. Hinduja, Chairman, Hinduja Group of Companies (Europe) and Mr. R. Kannan, Head of Performance Management, Hinduja Group in Mumbai.

A discussion was held to develop partnership between Hinduja Group and CEGET/GCNI for strengthening collective action of diverse stakeholders for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Ms. Bijal Brahmbhatt and Ms. Veena Bhardwaj of Mahila Housing Sewa Trust (MHT) visited CEGET office on 1st August 2019 in Delhi.

MHT is conscientiously working to improve and upgrade the habitat for poor communities and are now exploring the possibility to work for SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation). CEGET/GCNI will assist them in striking relevant partnerships.

    1. Business Biodiversity Alliance meet on 20th September 2019
      CEGET, Keystone Foundation and VNV Advisory Services are collaborating to create the Business Biodiversity Alliance. The Alliance is being set up as a collaborative to support businesses to innovate and sustain programs which mitigate the impacts on the biodiversity in the country. The Alliance will work towards conserving and promoting Biodiversity (land, water, forest) by leveraging greater collective investments and partnerships to create seamless linkages between businesses and implementation partners.An intimate strategic dialogue between business leaders and government officials is to be held in New Delhi on 20th September, 2019. This is a preparatory meeting to share the objectives of the Alliance and gather perspectives from industry and conservation experts.
