SDG Assessment planning Meeting with Thane Smart City ( TSCL)


To enable Thane Smart City to measure its progress over time and set standards to meet the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), GCNI – CEGET signed an MoU with Thane Smart City (TSCL) on 31st May 2019.

Ms. Shabnam Siddiqui, Director, CEGET had a meeting with Mr. Sameer Unhale, CEO, Thane Smart City at TSCL office on 17th July 2019. The meeting was attended by representatives from different departments of the Thane Municipal Corporation engaged in the implementation of Smart City Projects.

Based on mutual concurrence, detailed Scope of Work and Quarterly Plan of Implementation was deliberated with TSCL. Need was also felt for the creation of a multi-stakeholder Working Group for SDG Assessment of Thane. Moving forward, three SDG orientation workshops and a Design Workshop for Working Group members have been planned to be held in Thane in August – September 2019.

Partnership meeting with Pune Municipal Corporation, Maharashtra

CEGET had an exploratory meeting with representatives of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on 16th July 2019 for an SDG Assessment of Pune.

Pune city’s Resilient strategy, Disaster Management and Environmental Status reports are already aligned with SDGs. Pune now has an ambition to integrate SDGs for planning strategic implementation, in which CEGET looks forward to supporting them.

Showcasing CEGET’s impact through Corporate Movie

CEGET released a corporate movie to showcase initiatives it has engaged in to promote governance, transparency and ethical practices among businesses and smart cities.

The movie captures the journey of CEGET through sharing of experience of GCNI’s senior management and learning of partners, with respect to the progress and growth of CEGET.

Exploring Partnership

CEGET is in the process of developing strategic partnerships with multiple partners, around specific SDGS. Some noteworthy progress has been made with Biosfera Foundation and Embassy of Netherland (SDG 11, 13, 15, 17); UN-HABITAT (SDG 11); Chennai Smart City and IIT Madras (SDG 11);  International Union for the Conservation of Nature (SDG 13 & 15); and National Institute for Urban Affairs and SAP India (SDG 17).

Upcoming Event

Urban Thinkers Campus 4.0 are being hosted by organisations all over the world, as part of the World Urban Campaign, in the run up to the 10th edition of the World Urban Forum in Abu Dhabi in 2020.

The UTC 4.0 in India will be held on 25-26 September 2019 at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi and is titled ‘The Resilient City We Need’. The campus will be jointly organised by GCNI, NIUA, TERI, UN Habitat and IUC/GCoM.

The two-day campus will address the following four objectives through dedicated urban labs, thematic sessions and round table discussions, along with crosscutting plenaries and a national policy forum.

  • Mainstreaming Urban Resilience Strategies – Developing evidence and policy frameworks for mainstreaming resilience in urban planning, development and management.
  • Strengthening Capacities – Understanding local capacities required for building resilient cities.
  • Data-Driven Governance – Constructing framework for data informed decision-making for resilient cities.
  • Fostering Engagement and Partnerships – Bringing together different stakeholders to initiate and prioritize the urban resilience agenda.
