Air Quality Monitoring and Management for Smart and Resilient cities

Enzen Global Solution in association with The East-West Center, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA organized a two-day multi-stakeholder workshop on ‘Air Quality Monitoring and Management for Smart and Resilient cities’ in Bangalore on 11th & 12th September 2019. Ms. Shabnam Siddiqui was invited as a speaker for the workshop.  The workshop brought key stakeholders, who are involved in the development and/ or implementation of Air Quality Management, to discuss the issues and trends in air quality monitoring, management and share knowledge on tools and best practices on air quality management.

Ms. Shabnam Siddiqui shared the national overview of air quality and the need of proper monitoring and management of the relevant initiatives /projects for Smart and Resilient Cities. CEGET managed to bring to this forum city leaders engaged in implementation, as well as policymakers, and ensured a wholistic overview of air quality management and steps to be taken forward.

Business Biodiversity Alliance for India (BBAI)- A Roundtable

CEGET in collaboration with VNV Advisory and Keystone Foundation organised a strategic dialogue between business leaders and government officials on 20th September 2019 in Delhi towards the creation of a Business Biodiversity Alliance for India.

The Alliance will be a collaborative between businesses, government agencies and relevant stakeholders to sustain programmes that mitigate / reverse the degradation of biodiversity in the country. By leveraging greater collective investments and partnerships, seamless linkages between businesses and implementation partners will be facilitated.

Two additional strategic dialogues will be held in Bangalore and Mumbai, in October and November 2019 respectively, to invite and onboard business stakeholders, before the formal launch of the Alliance in early 2020.

Chevening Scholarship and Fellowship Programme

Chevening Scholarships and Fellowships are fully funded programme with the British Government and UK institutions that provides access to academic courses, networking events, volunteering opportunities, workshops and talks.

On 23rd September 2019, CEGET arranged a special session to present the Chevening Scholarship and Fellowship Programme in Delhi.

30 participants from business, academia, independent professionals and government agency representative participated in the programme and showed interest in applying to the Chevening Scholarships and Fellowship programme.

SDGs Orientation for Thane Smart City

CEGET conducted an SDG orientation workshop for the members and stakeholders of Thane Smart City, in their premises, on 24th September 2019. Mr. Somnath Singh, Programme Manager, CEGET and Prof Dr. Rukaiya Joshi from S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai facilitated the orientation and assisted TSCL’s stakeholders to deep-dive into SDGs approaches, especially how city’s projects need to be aligned with SDGs.

Prof. Rukaiya Joshi explained how an SDG assessment will help in identifying the real challenges that Thane Smart City is facing, as well as provide a comprehensive overview of the available possibilities of intervention.

21 city participants/stakeholders including the CEO, TSCL attended the orientation programme and committed to improving the city performance by aligning city’s projects with SDGs.

Urban Thinkers Campus 4.0 “The Resilient City We Need”

CEGET, in collaboration with NIUA (National Institute for Urban Affairs), UN Habitat – India; The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI); the International Urban Cooperation (IUC), India, and the Global Challenges Forum (GCF) organized the Urban Thinkers Campus titled ‘The Resilient Cities We Need’ on 25th and 26th September 2019. The Campus was part of the series of events being organized across the globe as part of the World Urban Campaign (WUC) by UN Habitat in the run-up to the World Urban Forum that will take place in February 2020 in Abu Dhabi.

Ms. Shabnam Siddiqui moderated a session on ‘Fostering Engagements and Making Partnerships Sustainable’. The objective of the session was to deliberate on how cities and communities, to be sustainable and resilient, needed to move from competition to collective action so as to mobilize, redirect and unlock the transformative power of investments, in critical sectors of sustainable energy, infrastructure and transport, as well as information and communication technologies.

The participants from businesses, city leadership, urban planners and other relevant professionals and stakeholders agreed that multi-stakeholder partnerships and collective action are the need of the hour. The key takeaways from the deliberation over two days was that we need a Collective Action PACT, where P (stands for people at center of planning and implementation), Accountability (of all stakeholders), Communication (of intent, initiative and outcome), and Transparency (transparency in governance).

Centenary Celebration of Save the Children: Child Champions

Ms. Shabnam Siddiqui, Director, CEGET was invited as a guest of honour for the historic centennial Right Start Summit for Children, organized on the eve of Save the Children’s 100 Years, in collaboration with the premier national body ICMR – National Institute of Nutrition on September 27, 2019, in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh.  The Right Start Summit 2019 brought children from the project areas, previously sponsored children, partners, Government Representatives, Commissioners, Directors, INGOs, UN Agencies, media and other dignitaries from the state of Andhra Pradesh and across India. During the summit, child champions and other stakeholders were felicitated with the Changemaker Awards.
