‘Never give up’ marked by UN Secretary Antonio on 2018 UN Day

Marking the 2018 United Nations Day, which fell on 24thOctober, Secretary-General António Guterres urged the men and women of the UN, and those they serve, to ‘never give up’ tackling the world’s many challenges. https://youtu.be/oUTUGUEQ03Q

Around the theme ‘Making the United Nations relevant to all people: Global Leadership and shared responsibilities for Peaceful, Equitable and Sustainable Societies’, the 73rd UN –Day was celebrated at the Country Headquarter (India) in New Delhi, on 24th October 2018. Mr. Yuri Afanasiev, UN Resident Coordinator hosted the programme and shared niche achievements of United Nations India with regard to social development, as well as a comprehensive plan for next year.

Mr. Hardeep Singh Puri, Hon’ble Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), GoIcommended the initiatives of UN India and committed to further strengthening of ties between the two entities. Mr. Ramdas Athavale, Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, GOI and Mr. Amitabh Kant, CEO, Niti Aayog were also present in the celebration.

CEGET team – Ms. Shabnam Siddiqui, Director and Mr. Somnath Singh, Program Manager had a brief discussion with the Mr. Hardeep Singh Puri on CEGET’s updates, initiatives and innovations in Smart Cities of India.

City Partnership

80 cities globally, including 9 cities from India, submitted their Expressing of Interest (EOI) for the UN GCCP (Global Compact Cities Programme), City Partnerships Challenge – Project, for which the deadline was 5th October, 2018. CEGET will facilitate this global project in India and work on innovations in the urban transformation space, vis-à-vis making the Indian cities investment friendly.

SGD11 – Explorative meeting with CIDCO on smart city headway

Mr. Faiyaz Khan, Manager Town Service, City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) had an elaborate meeting with Ms. Shabnam Siddiqui, on urban planning to promote and strengthen the United Nations mandate under Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11). CIDCO has been in the business of building cities for a couple of decades now, executing large scale infrastructure projects in the region.

The meeting explored the possibility of CIDCO partnering with CEGET and taking the lead in Business Round table of Mumbai.

SDG –17 CEGET collaborative Meeting with National Institute of Urban  Affairs (NIUA)

CEGET has been working towards promoting and strengthening the United Nations mandate under Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17). In pursuance of this thematic issue Ms. Shabnam Siddiqui and Mr. Arya Dev, Programme Analyst (Legal) from CEGET had a collaborative meeting with Dr.Umamaheshwaran Rajasekar and his team from National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA). The agenda of the meeting was to explore collaboration, potential partnership & joint effort of working in Urban transformation activities.

NIUA is a premier institute for research, capacity building and dissemination of knowledge for the urban sector in India. At the meeting CEGET and NIUA brainstormed on potential partnership initiatives that would be rolled out in the coming months.

SDG15 – CEGET planning meeting for exploring partnership for corporates with BBA

Exploring partnership for Corporate Collective Action around SDG 15 (Life on Land), a Business-Biodiversity Alliance (BBA) meeting was conducted at GAIL Bhawan.Dr. Ashutosh Karnatak, Director (Projects) GAIL & Chairman, CEGET Committee chaired the meeting. A brief workshop was conducted on identifying and prioritising initiatives that this Alliance would implement in 2019, and an initial agenda was developed with group consensus.

Call for Action

Expanding its intervention on SGD 15, CEGET invites corporates & stakeholders, already engaged/ investedin biodiversity / climate change to connect with us for developing collective action on SDG 15.

8th CEGET Committee meeting 

The 8th CEGET Committee meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Dr. Ashutosh Karnatak. The meeting was held to strategically plan CEGET interventions for the coming quarter and internalise the broader targets of CEGET’s scope of work.

CEGET will soon announce its Events calendar for 2019, to facilitate more interaction and involvement of stakeholders in its initiatives.

Seminar on aligning with sustainability trends & defining actions

Sustainable Business Strategy can help companies to grow profitably while managing risks. Keeping it as a fact, TERI Council for Business Sustainability co-conducted with GAIL (India) Ltd., a ‘Sustainability seminar for Indian Oil & Gas Sector’ in Gail Jubilee Tower, New Delhi. Ms. Shabnam Siddiqui and Mr. Arya Dev attended the event & contributed ideas & trends that are vital while shaping sustainability roadmaps & materiality evaluation for Indian companies.

Dr. Ashutosh Karnatak, Chairman CEGET Committee Member & Director (Projects) GAIL (India) Ltd. addressed the inaugural session stating the importance & aim of the seminar is to help the participants better understand what sustainability means for companies & how it can add value and resilience to their operations. Through discussion and interactive session participants analysed Sustainability Super Trends that included climate change, Sustainable Development Goals & pressure on natural resources with action driven solutions at company level.

India- Korea trade corridor to leverage environmental cooperation

Understanding the importance of transformation of environmental policies for better quality of life, Ministry of Environment (Government of Republic of Korea), Korea Environmental Industry Association (KEIA), Embassy of The Republic of Korea and KOTRA conducted a seminar – ‘Korean-Indian Environmental Cooperation Forum’ at The Lalit Hotel New Delhi.

Mr. Somnath Singh and Mr. Arya Dev attended the event to explore collaboration opportunities, and promote trade, investment and technical co-operation. The purpose of the event was to promote In-Ko bilateral trade and build strong partnership between the industry players of both countries India and South Korea.

The event featured participation from Korean delegates including ministry officials, embassy delegates, association members, government of India officials and Indian companies.
