Global Compact Network India – 12th National Convention – 2017, New Delhi

UN Global Compact Network India organises every year its flagship event National Convention. Rotated round the country, this year, at New Delhi the National Convention, 12th in its series was held on 28th April 2017. The GCNI National Convention coincided with the UN Global Conference held on 26-27 April 2017 held also in New Delhi. This year, the theme of the Convention was “Making Global Goals Local Business”.  There is a broad consensus that governments alone will not be able to meet the targets set by the SDG goals.  Thus, under this theme, the objective of the convention was to encourage the Corporate Sector to work towards the achievement of some of these ambitious SDG goals There are key roles that government departments and agencies need to play in order to ensure that businesses can operate efficiently and assist in meeting the targets set by the SDG goals by the year 2030.

Global Compact Network India – 11th National Convention – 2016, Mumbai

India committed to pursue and practice clean and sustainable development – The Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Shri Prakash Javadekar has said that Government’s initiatives to tap cleaner sources of energy reflected India’s commitment to pursue and practice clean and sustainable development. As a fast developing economy, climate adaptation measures along with mitigation formed the defining factor in India’s approach towards development. He also emphasized the need to alter the energy mix in favour of renewable energy sources so that a balanced approach towards development and environment conservation could be evolved. Shri Javadekar stated this while giving a joint statement with Dr. Barbara Hendricks, Minister for Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety, of Germany here today.

Global Sanitation Summit is a unique national level event and the 2nd conference of its kind in our country to be organized by India CSR Group to establish a platform of brainstorming by concerned experts, stakeholders and to usher an era of change by converging attention and focus of development professionals, social scientists, politicians, organization leaders and other change agents to this much neglected issue “Sanitation and Toilet for All”,because this is high time and we cannot wait.
